Speaker profiles:

Kristie Fairchild serves as the Executive Director for North Beach Citizens. As a local frontline service provider, North Beach Citizens has seen a 60% increase in people seeking help. As a result, NBC is distributing three times more food to the community than this time last year, through daily meals “to-go” and the Wednesday Community Food Pantry. They also put homeless people to work in their street beautification program. As a beacon of support for the neighborhood, NBC ensures that people who are living close to the margins know that they are part of a caring community and connected to support. Check out their Fund-a-Need list, which includes a COVID-19 Lifeline program.

Joshua Bamberger, M.D. is currently serving as the Assistant Director of UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative, in addition to his medical practice at San Francisco Veterans Hospital and San Francisco Department of Public Health. A specialist in exploring the causes and remedies to homelessness in the Bay Area, Dr. Bamberger is a thoughtful and innovative expert on housing as a critical health component. His work has pinpointed homeless causes of incarceration, mental illness, and alcoholism, but by far the main root cause is lack of affordable housing.

Sewer Upgrades Begin Along Embarcadero

The City has begun work on the Force Main Rehabilitation at Embarcadero and Jackson Improvements project. This project will complete the rehabilitation of the North Shore Force Main sewer serving 350,000 customers in the northeastern part of San Francisco.

Activities will occur along The Embarcadero between Piers 1 and 7.  Expect traffic delays as partial lane closures will be necessary to ensure public and worker safety during construction. See notice for full details and a map with suggested detour routes.

Construction is estimated to last 18 months, so completion should occur during winter, 2021. Weather and/or construction issues may impact the schedule. Workdays and hours (weather permitting) are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. Some night and weekend work may be required.
